Hey just trying to help a friend out anyone here have experience with this species? how are they with other birds?

I do not keep these birds myself but I am friends with Mike Lubbock of Sylvan Heights Waterfowl Park and I have spent a lot of time with him during my internships and times that I have stayed with him during the summer and he along with the most of the employees did not make these cranes seem very friendly from the stories they told me. Saurus cranes can be very aggressive especially during breeding season and will kill other birds. I would not recommend keeping them with other birds.

Hi, I worked with this species of crane along with seven other species at a number of zoos. I found that this species was very aggressive towards other birds throughout the year and towards keepers during the breeding season. However all crane species can be varying degrees of aggressive really depends on the individual birds ! We successfully kept demoiselles, red crowned, wattled, white naped, and grey crowned cranes successfully with a variety of waterfowl, ibis and herons. However found sarus, blue and Florida Sandhills too aggressive.
Often we housed juvenile cranes with other species but found that the large Grus species including the sarus too aggressive still. Had one instance were a three month of sarus crane caught a cattle egret mid air ( bird was luckily unharmed).
Also if you want good breeding results from cranes often much better to keep them in single species aviairies , as the presence of other birds can stress them out.
