EDIT: Eggtopsy complete. It had a crossed flattened beak and couldn't break out of the shell to pip. It didn't have the little horn on the tip they use to break out, and would have been cross beaked badly. Poor little baby.

well at least you know why now. and probably for the best or you might have gotten attached...
Yeah, I have one with a badly crossed beak that has to be processed this weekend along with an egg heating hen, so it is probably best that I let nature take it's course. Sucks to hold something that was chirping and trying so hard the day before in your hands and still know you did the right thing.
HAHAHAHAHA WHOOPS! I meant an egg EATING hen, the egg HEATING hens are in the broody box sharing a nest of fake eggs until I figure out if they are serious or not.
