Great, sounds like you already have a good plan. The blue coop will be just fine for the garage, so long as it isn't freezing cold in there. You can find coop layouts in here, I think in under the brown button at the top of your screen that links to 'Articles.'

We also have local forums in here where you can search for chickens for sale or post what you want to buy. Craigslist has plenty of chickens for sale in most areas, too, or you could by chicks from a feed store or hatchery.

It's fantastic to hear of this hen's rescue. You've done a great thing. :D I myself have rescued multiple hens off of roads; sadly, most have already been hit and usually don't survive. :( You got to her just in time!

I agree with all the recommendations above me. Chickens are very social animals, and it would be in her best interest for you to get her at least one flock mate. Keep in mind that silkies can be timid- it may be a better idea to refrain from pairing her with a notoriously gregarious breed such as Rhode Island Reds or Rocks.

You are a very kind person for saving a chicken from becoming certain roadkill. She's probably very confused and scared. Looks like you did a job great getting her set up in a coop already... kudos to you!!!

Like others have said, she'll need a friend (or more) but she'll be fine alone for a couple weeks/months while you research how to care for chickens. There are precautions to take before adding chickens together (you can't just throw strangers together in the same pen right away) including quarantine. But if you get baby chicks the process is usually much easier and so rewarding.

Oh I forgot to mention...
those little prefab coops like you have do make good separation pens and brooders, but you probably won't want to bring them inside every night, especially if you plan to build an outdoor coop, which is the best anyway. Chickens will go inside (the main coop) and roost for the night all on their own, and they really need just that one location to call home, permanently.

There are so many articles on coops here and some have plans. You'll probably want to build a big one, just in case, people always seem to end up with more chickens than they plan on. And you have the space! You will have to make sure your new coop and run is predator-proof.
