Saved some ducks, have a few questions.

Her pool is half under a tree, so she has protection and sun, but after reading some other posts on here, I'm not sure. She spots them and watches them, but doesn't bother to get under the tree. Trying to think of a way to cover her better.
Does she have anything she can get under or inside of. They will take a duck or land and kill one and eat it where they kill it if they can. my chickens have taught the ducks to run for cover when the Red tails are around. but it took a red tail getting one of my hens to teach them the fear of a flying predator.

I was just too worried. There's 3 of them out there looking for lunch. The ducks at the creek are all calling and warning each other, so she got brought in. I think I'm going to pull off a small side of the dog run tonight, and we can lay it over the fencing around her pool from now on.

Finding a more permanent temporary solution to her housing may inspire my husband to have a change of heart. The more I change things around our house to actually accommodate a duck, the easier she gets to take care of, and the less he complains ;-)

Quick update:

Duke is doing really well. She's taken to climbing in my lap to lay down and tuck her head into my shirt to sleep. She calls to us when we leave her, and likes to chew us out for a bit when we get back. She's also decided my glasses don't belong on my face. Her and my daughter hang out most of the evening after school, and since she sleeps in a giant dog kennel in my daughter's room, she's become an excellent alarm clock.

Still working on something safer for her outside, so for now she's supervised outside and mostly a house duck...who likes to try to attack the cats (this terrifies the cats, she's much bigger than they are now!).

I had a duck I found as a kid, but I don't really remember it, and none of the other ducks we've rescued have been this young, or been here this long, so this is really interesting to me. Duke is really an interesting critter, and her intelligence is amazing to me.

P.S. No decision on keeping her or not has been made yet, and probably won't be until we figure out how stressful it is going to be on everyone (especially Duke) to incorporate her into a new flock...it's obvious she thinks we're just big funny looking ducks and are a perfectly acceptable flock to be a part of.

I wanted to share this with everyone who has been so supportive on this thread. We received this in the mail yesterday. I am so touched, the vet who cared for him went above and beyond with care for him and us, and this on top of it is just simply amazing.

P.S. We still have Duke :)

That is so special. Thank you for sharing that with us. Since you still have Duke does that mean she is staying?
