That is the dictionary definition, however with the advent of a stronger ASPCA and breed rescue groups the term "Rescue" has morphed into saving animals from unhealthy, malnourished, abusive ownership and plaing them into homes where they can have a productive live.
The assignment of "rescue" to a meat animal destined to a productive end as providing food and nourishment for humans is incorrect in my view. Had the chickens been removed from an owner that was not feed them, that technically would be a rescue. If the birds were stolen from a slaughterhouse because they thought their productive use was more important than the productive use as food then we are not talking about rescue, rather a shift in productivity.
If the person purchased the birds then I don't care what they did with them. My biggest concern is the implied equality between food harvesting throught slaughter and neglect, malnourishment, and abuse. There two totally separate issues.
