I went to tractor supple to get some chicken food and hay for my rabbit, and I went to go look at the baby chicks. But when I got there my heart sank, they had the bins way over filled. You could not see the floor of the bins with how many chicks were in there and they had to walk on top of each other to get around. And the even worst part is. There were dead chicks in there. We talked to the manager but all he told me was they were taking care of it. But I didn't believe him. I dont know what else to do.

What in the world...?
Someone on here said they can only have 100 chicks per bin.
Looks like less than 100 in there to me......
100 chicks in a 4' long trough is a very crowded trough.
:hmm
This is the first time I have ever seen them do this but it was so sad to see little bantam chicks that were stomped on and dead:hit I did not know what to do but talk to the manager, but he didn't care. :(

I am in no way saying what they have going on is even remotely ok.
It's sad that it is the "norm" to do that.
I am betting the manager was already aware and that many people had already let him/her know about it.
I think they get burnt out with being on an automatic ship schedule.
They cannot force people to buy so when a shipment comes in and not many were sold the week before they are over run quickly.

Our TSC puts older chicks on sale and holds the new chicks in the back......hoping they are in troughs with heat and food/water while in the holding pattern.
:hmm

Yes he was aware of the problem, we told him there were dead chicks in the bins and he said he already new and he went to get them out. I told him that the bins were way over crowded and he said he was taking care of it. Ilwhat else can I do other then talk to the manager.

That really is about all that can be done.

I don't usually use TSC. The last time I was in there though.....I could have bought 4 week old light Brahma or 4 week old ducks for .50 each.
The thing is.....I am full up. :hmm
I would have loved to bring all the Brahma home.....but with no room I really had to say no.

If I would have had enough room in my coop I would have bought the chicks just to get them out of the tractor supple. But I'm all out of room has well. :hmm

Local feed store in the town next to us have a few in troughs like that, but mostly they have the others separated and in little cages with wire on the bottom so the poo will fall through and they have heat lamps on them. They have a pig that you can pet and walk around the store too. Also their popcorn is the best. The only thing I can really say about them is that their prices on things are kinda high and the workers there don't know what breed of Bantams they have. They either lied or didn't know that the polish we bought were standard breed and not Bantams. We bought 6 of them and they all turned out to be the big ones and we only got one hen. I had to tell them they had Golden Sebrights. A few chicks may have pasty butts, but overall they look to be in good shape.
