Saw something sad :(

I agree with a previous poster: call your local aspca or animal control office. I wouldn't even mess around with an email or personal contact. The poor critters will benefit enormously from your concern!!

Call animal control, spca, whoever. Just call, and then follow up and see what was done. If nothing is done, call someone else. You will eventually find someone who will get things done.

I agree with the others. You should call the SPCA. Those people have no right treating any living creature that way. And every kid who goes there is going to think that this is how you treat farm animals and that that is how they are supposed to look and act. They need to be stopped. If they have money comming in then they have the resources to care for these animals. They are CHOOSING not to.

Just my 2 cents

Of course I'm going to do something about it and I DO NOT condone whats going on over there. I posted this thread to find out what I should do and thank you everyone for responding.

Before calling the SPCA, I would go & tak to the owners of the farm in person. Especially since you live near there.

There may be other things happening.
It could be the owners are just money hungry & don't care about the animals. Or, maybe they have entrusted the care of the animals to a person that doesn't care, (giving the owners reports on how well the animals are doing). Or, they don't know how to care for chickens. Or, these chickens may have been a rescue & are recuperating.

What did the other animals look like?

If the owners are not receptive to you concerning the welfare of the animals, then contact the authorities.

I feel it is better to try to educate first, before reporting someone.

Please don't think I wrote anything bad. I just told them what I had heard and was concerned.

No that's fine. Let me know if they write you back.

These people run their own farm, they don't have people who work for them. So there's no way they are clueless to the condition of these chickens. Their house is not more than 200 feet from the animal pen. So I'm betting these people are just money hungry and don't give two cents about these poor babies. The only water was a nasty pond that has been dyed a bluesh green and the only food was whole corn that kids were throwing at animals because you can't go up to the fence to feed them. These people need to be shut down.

That's really awful. Argh! It's hard to even think about those poor critters.
Unfortunately, this kind of thing isn't exactly uncommon. Something really needs to be done to call attention to what's happening over there!

Thanks for posting, SouthernChick.

I have a whopping TWO whole chickens and I have to get inspected every year. I can't believe that the farm doesn't have to get inspected too.
I'd drop a dime to the ASPCA or ACO.
Let us know what happens, please.
