Say 'ello to my litt'el frien...dead snake photo

Are ALL snakes such as little gardener (sp) snakes going to be a problem for my BOs? I have never seen any other snake in our area other than the ones in the garden (and rock walls).

Please tell me because our coop is elevated - built on a tier surrounded by a 1 foot high rock wall.

LOL I pick up snakes and spiders all the time. One of the track meets this year there was a girl yelling about a spider on her bag and I yelled at her not to squish it and ran over picked it right up and started playing with it the guys were staring at me like I was crazy, not like it would do anything if it did bite you there is only 2 venomous spiders in United States the black widow and the brown recluse. I tried to make one of the guys hold it and he stuck his hand out and right when it walked on to his hand he shoook it off real fast LOL!

Oh my Lord, I would have wet my pants if that was waiting in the shed for me. The non-venomous ones are scary enough as it is. We live across from a reservoir and it is just crawling with little snakes. You can't walk ten feet without one darting in front of you. I can't imagine living around rattlers.

the snakes you have to worry about getting your birds fall into the constrictor type (Colubrid) and are egg eaters. bull snakes coachwhips rat snakes and the ever ominous chicken snake are the common chicken and chick killers. garter snakes and graass snakes eat bugs and other small items. heres a bit of advice for keeping snakes away from your chickens. if you have a snake lurking about hes probably looking for mice so be sure to keep your mouse population in check as well. i use a repeating mouse trap because im one of the crazy folks who keeps reptiles so i quote The Rock and say "just bring it" to the mice rat snakes and corn snakes lol. my python will eat them all.

Ole'timers say that goats help keep snakes away. They eat the brushy areas were snakes hide, plus the trampling of the earth suppose to send bad vibes to the snake.....anyway, that's what the ole'timers say...

Hate to scare you but all spiders are venomous. The reaction to their bites varies from person to person. Also the length of their fangs varies. So, while most folks react to the two you mentioned...anyone could react to others and some just don't have the umpf to kill you!

You're a neat kid! I understand why your dad bought you a Thunderbird.
