How old is the chicken? And do you have a rooster that crows already?
Sometimes hens will crow at a young age or if there's no rooster present. If not, if say you probably have a rooster.

Around 4 months old and there is no rooster present. Just hens or so I thought

Well that's a bummer. So much for being a pullet. I should have known because it's a very cocky chicken and clearly ruled the roost. This is such a good learning experience though! Thanks for your help
