I always knew the day I lost one of my four hens was going to come soon. They are all 4 years old, and have grown up together all their lives.

I brought Waffles to the vet after noticing her gout was bringing her so much pain. It seemed like she finally couldn’t hold in her pain anymore. She was tired and couldn’t move well. The vet told me she had a weak heartbeat and suspected heart failure.

No one ever prepared me for this decision but I decided to euthanize her. She was a pet, a beloved loved one, my whole life. She brought me joy with her cuddles that no one could.

I’m so sad her life was short but I know that it was so full of love.

I am sorry for your loss. It is always so hard. ❤️

Whenever 1 of my chickens passed away, I let the flock say goodbye. They all look at her. Some make terrible sound, walk away, some peck at the body like wake up, 1 just scream and run off. After that they all walk away. The flock were quiet for a few days.

Partially it is for me to say goodbye in some ways with my flock.
