"Scab" on nose and beak

About a month ago, I introduced 3 new hens to my flock. They are older hens, about a year and a half, and mine are still under a year. The pecking order ensued and everything has mostly calmed down at this point. One of my girls had part of her comb ripped off (used neosporin type stuff on it) and a couple had a small spot pecked on. Most made it out with just a few feathers pulled.

Yesterday I noticed one of my EEs (from my original flock) had what seemed to be a scab on her nose and wanted to check it out. I had to wait until today so I could get help to catch her. I took pictures. It looks like the scab has started "growing" INTO the beak?! Should I be concerned? Take any kind of action? Or should I just wait and see? We don't have any poultry vets around here, the closest one is over an hour away.

Here are the pictures. I tried to get them as clear as possible, but, only the last one (of MANY MANY pictures... LOL) came out super clear.

No expert here, never seen that before but it reminds me of like when you injure a nail bed (toe or finger) into the quick area where new growth comes from. I would keep an eye on it since it is so close to the nostrils that it doesn't block them, but think it is from injury not disease or anything like that.

Someone suggested avian pox... but it just doesn't look like the pictures that I've seen of it.

On the beak????? I agree w/ you I doubt avian pox, if so first of all I would HATE to meet up w/ that mosquito,

and secondly I would expect more pox on the skin.

One of my girls has this as well! I have been wondering the same thing! She doesn't seem to be bothered by it at all. I have 4 Buff Orpingtons bought as day old chicks from a hatchery. They are about 17wo right now.

It looks like she may have a slight injury. Possibly caught her beak in fencing or a tight place. Give it a couple of weeks to heal. If it gets worse, swells, starts to have oozing or an odor, then you may need to seek further care.

Personally, I would leave it be.
