Scabs on beak?

Cluckcluckgirl, both new birds had normal looking beaks when I got them. I have seen my older hens pecking at their beaks while showing aggression so I'm assuming they are injuries related to that. I am not certain though and hoping for confirmation someone who has seen this type of "scab" on their birds' beaks. Thanks.

My flock has fowl pox at the moment and it would be all over their combs. Not just their beaks if it was fowl pox. You are right, it does look similar. But I really doubt they would get pox on only the beak area.

Some birds only get a few scabs just the comb or just the wattles, why not just on the soft part of the beak. And it could just be starting. More sores may erupt over the next few days.

Hopefully someone can come along that can say for certain what these are. They do seem odd, so maybe try the oil, or there is also fresh garlic which is said to have great natural antibiotic elements to it. Best of luck.

Update!! Large scab under Cinnamon's beak fell off! Whew... now just waiting for the rest of the scabs on the top of their beaks to fall off. So so glad it's not pox. I'll post more pics when the other scabs are gone.

Just saw your post and photos. Two of my birds had similar looking scabs (one on top of the beak close to the comb, and then about a month later another had one on the top/side of the beak) and both ended up falling off after a few days and haven't reoccurred or caused any other issues that I can see. While they still had them I did pick at them a little (initially I thought it was dirt) and both bled very slightly, but there was no pus or anything else and they were eating normally, no other growths, etc. So I'm thinking they were scabs from some minor injury and hopefully yours was the same and won't cause any further problems.

Update #2! The scabs on top of Beatrice's beak fell off. Woo hoo! I just hope her beak regrows because it's obvious where it was damaged and the outer layer is missing. Does anyone have experience with this?
