My barred rock hen has a severe case of scales leg mites which I am treating with oil. I noticed that she has 2 large scabs with an area of mild edema and redness on her breast bone. Could this be from contact with her legs when she's roosting?

I don't know why she is red with scabs on her breastbone it could be from the mites to get rid of the leg mites you can bathe her legs with a toothbrush and dish soap then put oil on her legs. Make sure to rub the oil all the way into the feathers on top of the leg.Rub it into the scales too. It will probably take a couple times of this to get rid of them.

It's possible that she has mites on her breast bone, but I would look at it closely for a breast blister. That may be a sin of MS or mycoplasma synoviae. Does she lay down a lot rather than walk around pecking? Go ahead and dust her for mites with 5% Sevin dust or permethrin poultry dust, then repeat it in 7 days, and again in 7 more days. For mites or lice, unfortunately the coop and nest boxes must be emptied of litter, cleaned, and spray with liquid Permectrin II.
