Mom hatched 2 babies 2 days ago and has already walked away from the rest of the eggs. This baby was hatched later when no one was around. I found it newly hatched, crying and cold. I have a broody hen so I placed it under her and all seemed well. Came out last evening and found that broody hen had kicked the baby out and it had been pecked in the head. Last night I placed it under mom with the other two. This morning I got a better look at the wound and it is not good... basicly scalped. I cleaned it and put on anti-biotic ointment. He is now separated (in the house) and on a heat pad with a stuffed toy chicken "momma". What more do I do? I have Poly-visol drops... how much? I have electrolyte powder in a packet... but how much do I mix for,say, a gallon. What else can I do for this baby? Is there hope? He seems weak but also seems to have a will to live, peeping and trying to stand. His eyes seem to be unharmed but everything in between is raw. Any suggestion and prayer would be appreciated.
