scalped duckling :(

Aww the poor wee love....

Colloidal silver gel worked for a drake I had with a wound down to the bone under his wing.
Something else you could try is hyaluronic acid (the same stuff that's in face serum and wrinkle filler). It can be helpful in keeping full thickness wounds moist and in promoting regeneration of tissue. If you don't have anywhere local to buy, you can get it online from either Chinese suppliers such as aliexpress (make sure you find a recommended one with a pure product) or search 'bulk actives' for suppliers of active ingredients for people making their own cosmetics. Don't get 'low molecular weight' HA acid, apparently normal/high molecular weight is best for wound healing and tissue regeneration.

When you get it, it's a powder, mix it up with a little water, ideally sterile or boiled water, leave it overnight and any lumps in it will dissolve, then smear it on the wound a couple of times a day. You don't need a lot the stuff absorbs up to I think it's 1000 times its weight in water, just make up it up till it's a similar viscosity to a nice face serum.

I got mine from a place called bulk actives (think it's bulkactives.com) which shipped it from China, was only about $5 for a few grams and they shipped reasonably quick, and a little goes a long way.
There is another bulk actives website which I think is us based if you are thee, which might ship faster. Message me if you want me to try and find the URL.

Oh and as a bonus, any left over u can put on your own face for a good anti wrinkle cream lol.

From what I read when I had this drake with the wing wound, you need to keep deep wounds moist, to encourage any dead tissue to slough off, and trigger the tissue underneath to regenerate.. That and of course keeping it clear of infection.

I do wonder what your little one will end up like when skin does regrow. it looks like it might not ever regrow feathers there if the follicles (or whatever they are called for feathers) were ripped off with the skin.) so I guess that wee one might always be a little vulnerable in that area, if it's ever injured in the future or pecked during fighting with other ducks etc. please keep us updated with photos!

The poor wee love I just want to cuddle it all better lol.... I hope your wee duck continues to heal, looks like you have done a great job so far on a nasty injury.

Hmm, interesting - I'll look into that stuff! Surely someone on Amazon sells it, and if so I can have here it 2 days.
I've been keeping the neosporin on it, trying to never let it dry out. I think I read somewhere when this first happened that if the bone turns gray, it's "dead" (which obviously is bad).

Baby duck continues to improve and grow like a little weed, lol. IMG_20180818_124724.jpg Where the skin is stitching back together between its eyes, it's pulling on the top of its "eyelid"... hoping once the scabbing goes away it'll not be so taut there.

Just look at that precious sleeping baby! :love

You know, these pics are only a couple days old but I swear it's improved even since then! This is right now: IMG_20180820_215159_01.jpg

Also... do we think boy or girl? Doesn't sound like the beginnings of girly honks to me, at least not how I remember. But I don't remember the boys' voices cracking like that... seemed like they just subtly transitioned from peeping to their raspy quiet quack, and later on, I thought - like around 7-8 weeks old. Where the girls started honking anywhere from 3-6 weeks... baby duck was 5 weeks old yesterday. It's been 4+ years since I had baby ducks around though, so my memory might be off.

P. S. This was our first try at letting baby duck spend some time outside safely. He/she was not amused at all at first, but eventually nibbled on some grass and sat down and enjoyed it. I may try it again out back with the big ducks in the next day or two.

I wouldn't be letting him out too much quite yet. You still don't want infection. Like I said before, once you start seeing it healing, it doesn't take so long after that. I believe you when you say you can see more healing in two days.
