Scaly leg mites

There’s so many different remedies on here.
Any kind of oil or ointment will work to kill the mites,
just pick one and stick with it,
seeing any improvement may take weeks... many weeks to months.
New scales may never grow back in depending on how ad the mite damage is.

Ya I tend to get overwhelmed and want to use everything lol but I think I’m going for the castor oil with tea tree I read on here someone said it doesn’t only suffocate its actual poison to the mites. We only got these guys and gals in November I’m fairly new to chickens we’ve had ducks and geese much longer. Oh well lesson learned.

The flock how are your girls doing is the Vaseline alone working on the mites?
It’s my first case of scaly leg and I have to say it really really turns my stomach and not much does ugh. My little bantam girl and rooster had it bad. The bantams never let me pick them up so I guess I just neglected them.. I feel really bad. I did the soapy water, scrubbed with a tooth brush, put olive oil on one coconut on the other and then vaseline. Also a little orange essential oil.

I also grabbed a few other hens and put just Vaseline even tho they looked fine- I really hope it helps.
I was thinking maybe I’ll do the castor oil with tea tree paint brush method.

I changed to a vaseline and canola oil mixture and dip their feet in it then rub it in well.
Their legs seem to be doing better. This spring I'm gonna go nuts on de-miting my coop. Not much can be done now as everything freezes. The coop spray liquid freezes everytime I've tried to spray it down. So I'll do the vaseline mixture if I notice anything again. Then I'm going to go crazy cleaning the coop and with worming and vaseline-ing them with the warmer weather.

Nice! I agree it’s so cold here it’s going to be hard for me to spray it down and then to let it dry. I’m going to try my best though I honestly don’t even know if I can clean the coop until this weekend I wiped down what I could and put Vaseline on the roosts until I can really get in there. I get home by 4:15 and it gets dark here by 4:30 so there’s no way it can dry.
I think I’m going to do the dipping thing as well as painting. I’ve been reading more about the castor oil and apparently it also has healing properties.
I tried looking this morning at everyone’s feet again and it seems those two are the only ones who have it. I’m treating everyone this weekend though even the turkeys!
