Cockrell may have leg mites? (7 mos) Noticed yesterday he had a pink spot where the foot meets the leg. When i picked him up to really look it looked like he may have scrubbed it against something as a few of his foot feathers looked broken. I sprayed it with the infamous purple spray. Now this evening it is red raw looking with what looks like it may have bled at sometime. And part of the area that i sprayed last night is rubbed off as part of this raw area. IS THIS SCALY LEG MITES?..
Immediately i looked at all the girls feet and legs and none of them have anything that looks abnormal? So i cleaned up his leg and rubbed in a little neosporin (NO PAIN) what do i need to do next? Thanks.

Could you get a picture?
I did... but being over 70 and not being a computer guru i never figured out how to get pics from my phone to this page?? Grandson said he would come today to show me and ended up going to work... as teenager a jr in highschool he will prioritize work being first so he can have all the other real firsts he wants... hahaha. Like his girlfriend, gas for his truck, insurance and entertainment!! Not sure where his old granny is on that list! Hahaha. Just being silly.. he is always coming round or calling to check on his ""old folks"".. hahaha
So soon as i can get pics here i will post! I am so concerned about my boy! All his feathers are gone on one foot and leg which then i saw that leg looks just like the other... there are still half the feathers on the other one but there are 2 broken quills and if i am not careful enough when washing 1 of them will bleed a little??
A neighbor that says her family always had chix when she was growing up told me it didnt look like leg mites to her and another thought she had was if it were mites it wouldnt have gotten the enter length of both legs just on the outide in a day or 2. ???? At first i covered his feet and legs in vaseline. But since they seemed to be so tender.. the past 2 days after washing and drying his feet and legs i have put triple biotic ointment on the red and the raw areas... then rubbed on vaseline over his entire legs.
Soon as possible i need you to see the pics i am desperate to get him well!
Thank you so very much.

I fogot to tell you also... where this red meaty streak is up both his legs... looks to no longer have scales?? Which really concerns me that there is no protection and he will get a bad infection.??? I have been very careful when washing him.. he cant stand being touched in that red area! I can gently scrub all over his feet and legs that is normal .. he never moves.. but to get close to that red.. he begins wiggling to get down and making. A sorta throaty little noise.

Thank you tookie ... hope the pics post and you are able to help me! I am so concerned about his legs. He is a BIG boy .. 7 mos old and already 11 lbs. and 18 inces tall. He is a light brahma. And we really are attached to him! Dont want him to be in pain and dont want to lose him!

Can you see the 5 pics? These pics are of both legs .. i just didnt make notice of left or right. And it is only on the outside of each leg. If you can see the pics... the first pic.. if you can enlarge it you can see one of the broken quills and how a drop of blood is coming out. This leg still has half of the feathers where all the feathers on the other foot are gone.
Again, thank you so very much for helping me!

TREATING SCALY LEG MITES (SLM) ~ WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
i don't know if he actually has them but if he does here's an article

Doesn't really look like SLM, more like broken feathers and irritated feather follicles.
Seems like birds with feathered feet are more prone to have these issues.

Like what I have circled, it's bleeding because the blood feather is broken. That one, you can pull out with a pair of pliers to stop the bleeding, (only pull out ones that are infected or actively bleeding) rinse well with an antiseptic or saline, then apply a little triple antibiotic ointment.

He may be picking at his feet and legs due to the feathers being broken.

Some NuStock cream applied to the legs may be helpful. As well.
Some of the redness, especially on the inside of the leg may be coloring from hormones. Roosters especially can have a red streak on their leg, this indicates fertility.
