Scaly leg mites...

If you would like something that works with one application and won't set your bird on fire, there is a treatment called NuSTock one can purchase online or at feed stores. If they don't have it, they might order it in for you. The tube lasts a long time, is good for all sorts of skin afflictions/wounds in livestock and pets, works quickly and helps restore new, shiny scales quickly....and is just sulfur, pine tar and mineral oil.

You might also apply it to your roosts as a preventative.

Doesn't Ivomec work for that? I know it does for the other kinds of mites. I'd probably have to draw the line at kerosene and WD40

I used bag balm put on in a thick layer. You can also mix a bit of sevin dust in with the balm and that helps too. Just takes awhile. I would put it on nightly or every other night. Good luck whichever method you choose!

I adopted a White Wyandotte and unfortunately besides her other ailments, she has/had scaly leg mites. I used Vaseline daily for three days and low and behold they are gone. You have to treat the chicken to keep them from coming back. The problem I am having is trying to get rid of the mites that came with her. Unfortunately she has infected the rest of my flock so I am treating them all with DE. So far it is working but I think I have to keep working at it to get rid of all of them.

I don't think I would use 7-dust because it is a pesticide and the other chickens are always pecking at each other and would inevitably ingest the poison. When I use Vaseline my Lucie is always checking out her feet and I don't know how much she actually eats.

Just watch to make sure the DE is actually killing the mites before the mites kill your chickens. DE is more effective, it seems, as a preventative rather than a treatment for an infestation. I use seven now and no chickens have died from it.

It seems as if the DE is working. You say you use 7-dust. Don't your chicks peck at each other and wouldn't you be concerned about ingesting the poison? If you can tell me a way of using it safely I will do it. Maybe I just don't know the way to apply it. Thank you in advance.
