Unless you are wanting to show your rooster, then you do not have to dub him at all.

That's true.
Hi DJ! I know what you mean! I have two Modern Game bantam cockerels I was going to dub today. I sharpened my scissors last evening and went out with all intents to 'do it' this morning. I've been the 'holder' for lots of dubbings and know it isn't a big deal --- but lost my nerve by myself with my own birds.
Do you have a buddy that could be the 'holder' while you make the cut?
Good luck!

ya. me and my brother dubbed his rooster today after i made the post. we were nervous because he made a cut a little low and the bird was really acting weird. but he came out of it and im going to do mine tommoroow

I dub my modern games. You need to wait until they are mature enough that their comb is developed before dubbing, otherwise it will finish growing in all funky looking.

It takes a steady hand, certainty, and you can't hesitate half way in between. And you need a very good pair of scissors. I use surgical steel straight dubbing shears. Yes, they'll bleed. If you can keep them quiet before dubbing, that will help. I always put mine up in a shipping box deep in shavings after dubbing and place them in a dark room overnight to keep them quiet and still. By morning, they're good to go. I'll add a little Red Cell back into their water for two weeks following a dubbing to help them rebound.

But as was mentioned, there is no need to dub unless you intend on showing.

I want to dub my modern game roo but have never done it before but have assisted a vet friend of mine cut show apbt's ears and dock cocker spaniel tails and I also hunt and fish so blood shouldn't be an issue my issue is the price of and how long it took to get the dang birds lol I don't want to chance death but I want to show him. The hens have blue ribbons under them already and its stock bred from tom andersons so he should do well at show
