Perhaps it's because my chickens are Seramas and very small, but unless we hand-feed the roaches to them (with long tweezers)!, they won't touch them. They're actually Palmetto Bugs, here in Charleston, SC.

I bet those folks froze their butts off, though, in those houses. I remember my aunt's house when I was a child. It was like that. It also had a cistern on their enclosed back porch. Decades later that house and land sold for a lot of money.

Hi Stacey! I live in Tucson too. I can tell you that after a year + of having chickens here, our cockroach population has not increased one bit due to the chickens. We only find cockroaches in the compost piles and they don't survive the chickens very well. Don't let a fear of roaches prevent you from getting chickens. Good luck and

Well I live in FL and we get those huge nasty roaches outside. They like to live in the palm trees and also like wet wood.
Like you roaches are my bigger fear, I like snakes, scorpions, spiders but NOT roaches. I hate the big ones especially when they fly LOL!
Anyhow one day I opened up the key west chicken coop in the morning and this huge black one falls down. He was hiding in the top crack of the door. He didn't last 2 seconds because the hens ran out and grabbed him and started fighting over it and ripped it to shreds. I'm really liking having chickens lol. They are the ultimate pest patrol.

The ONLY place I've seen cockroaches is living in poo that's under battery cages, and the roaches were breaking it down. Not only that, but they were the type of roach that prefers to live outside, and they were making the poo LESS offensive, turning it into soil.

Unless you're running a commercial battery egg operation, I'd not worry, a roach to a chicken is like a candy bar to a kid.

I have had chickens for 2 years now and I have NO roaches. If there is one thing not welcome in my home it's a ROACH

but, if your worried, just put some Combat Gel through out your house. Combat Gel is the best thing on the market for roaches.

would that be poison for a chick though IF they get at the roach after it gets into the poison?
