Scared to DEATH!!

It's just irresponsible of the government not to update the Migratory bird act. Hawks have been protected for so long that their population in some area is just out of control. There needs to be open season on them for a while by allowing farmers to start shooting them again. They have no fear of anything now.

I have heard any kind of string keeps hawks right away-I know someone who doesn't even have a ceiling on their run, just fishingline, and the only chickens she's lost were to raccoons. I've never tested this out, but I hear hawks are afraid of anything they could get tangled in. It may be worth a try.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. But yes I have read many stories of poultry that have died of fright. Seems they have tiny hearts that beat really fast and something can quite literally, scare them to death.

You might hang window screen over the door. Take two pieces and overlap in the center a few inches. You can add fishing weights to the bottom to keep it from blowing. It will also keep out bugs/flys. Hardware stores sell it in wide rolls too, for big doors. I use it in my horse stalls and my horses hardly come out because they don't get bitten up, but chickens know how to slip in the sides.
