Schijndelaar Thread

I'll start with my two chicks hatched 02-12-21 here.
I'm hoping the one on the left is a roo and the one on the right is a hen.
A completely unofficial guess at the moment though.

Never heard of this breed!
The first time I heard of this breed was a few years ago when doing a research on the production of blue egg layers

Here is the research(can't post PDF) Productive performance of Easter egger crosses of Araucana and Schijndelaar roosters with white Leghorn hens

Anyone wanting to get an idea of how many eggs do schijndelaar and Araucana lay on a year you should read the research

Does anyone know when the males's combs start reddening up? I have two babies who are 4.5 weeks old and look like pullets so far with yellow and practically nonexistent combs. I was just wondering at what age I can start to feel safe that they're indeed pullets :)

I’m not sure, here’s a picture of my roo at 8 weeks and then a couple of him now at nearly 2 years.

*Bump*
Hi! @spruett386 what is your Schijndelaar rooster’s personality like? Is he always friendly and willing to be held? And is he good to his hens? I’m probably going to get hatching eggs in the (hopefully near) future, and I’m very curious to know if the roosters are good boys.
Hey! I freaking love my Schijndelaars! Tim, my rooster, is just a big goo-goo baby and I can hold him as such. And Onion, my Schijndelaar hen, is as gentle as a lamb. They're a delightful pair.

My Schijndelaar cockerel (Tiny Tim) with the rest of our flock, including Mr Knightly, our Light Sussex rooster. They get along wonderfully.
12 girls between the 2 of them. 2 are Schijndelaar females. Their names are Garĺic and Onion. 😆
