Since I couldn't find an official Schijndelaar thread I thought I would start one!

I agree! They're awesome. Mine are both docile and friendly despite being raised by a broody. I was worried they'd be on the flighty side since they're a light breed but they are not. I can't wait to see the eggs in real life and eventually the long-tail of the rooster!
The first time I heard of this breed was a few years ago when doing a research on the production of blue egg layersNever heard of this breed!
Does anyone know when the males's combs start reddening up? I have two babies who are 4.5 weeks old and look like pullets so far with yellow and practically nonexistent combs. I was just wondering at what age I can start to feel safe that they're indeed pullets

I’m not sure, here’s a picture of my roo at 8 weeks and then a couple of him now at nearly 2 years.Does anyone know when the males's combs start reddening up? Hey! I freaking love my Schijndelaars! Tim, my rooster, is just a big goo-goo baby and I can hold him as such. And Onion, my Schijndelaar hen, is as gentle as a lamb. They're a delightful pair.*Bump*
Hi! @spruett386 what is your Schijndelaar rooster’s personality like? Is he always friendly and willing to be held? And is he good to his hens? I’m probably going to get hatching eggs in the (hopefully near) future, and I’m very curious to know if the roosters are good boys.
