How many weeks old are your pullets when they start to lay? I have an opportunity to buy some chicks and trying to get a feel for the breed.

Hi! @spruett386 what is your Schijndelaar rooster’s personality like? Is he always friendly and willing to be held? And is he good to his hens? I’m probably going to get hatching eggs in the (hopefully near) future, and I’m very curious to know if the roosters are good boys.

They are not interested in me much, only at snack time. They are more on the wild side. They are good protecters and I had no problem adding other roosters. So far there were no major fights

That is very good to know! I currently have more than a few cockerels, so it’s perfect that Schijndelaars can be with other roosters.

I wish there were more talk about Schijndelaar chickens. How they've fared, what their laying is like, personalities etc... i have one little pullet that i adore. I want to learn more about them though!

I wonder why their eggs look so faded? They should be an established breed so their blue egg color should be more intense

There are other colors, just not in the USA as far as I'm aware.

Will have to do some searching around then.

Our easter egger who always lays xl blue eggs laid her first of the season today. Here is a photo of hers vs our 2 smaller Schijndelaar eggs for color comparison.
