How is y'alls air quality affected by the heat? (Please excuse my ignorance. I haven't lived up north since I was 5, but I visit family almost every summer and never hear about this... I lived in the burbs outside Chicago but spent my weekend out in the corn fields, so I never really heard about pollution. I hear about it a bit now when I'm going through Dallas.)

Our schools in SW VA closed early every day this week for heat. The kids were a sweaty mess when they got home. Ick

In cooler parts of the country, there is no AC in schools and anything above like 80 with humidity is miserable, especially if you have to be inside.

I'm just a little north of Bangor and my kids had school all day here....miserably hot as it is! My mother lives in the Waterville area and they closed schools down that way too though.

My son (he's 6) came home and said he was so hot he grew a puddle on his nose

I dont ever remember school being closed early for heat! I also dont think it has ever been so dry either, in my lifetime anyway. Everything is crunchy and dry and the ground is just dust. Including my garden

Even the trees are shriveling up on top!
Our well essentially dried up over a month ago.
I am actually hoping for a taste of that hurricane!!!

Wow... the only time I've heard of school closing early is if a fluke storm blows in and ICE threatens... we don't usually get snow, we get ice, and that's a booger to drive in... but even that would be a rare thing to do because so many kids would be left unsupervised/without a ride... between 600-700 kids just in the nearest elementary... that's a lot of calls to make...

Normally if it gets really hot, at least 95 (or too cold, though I don't know what that temp is) then they keep the kids in, no outdoor recess... but they don't cancel school.
