Everyone's a critic now.

My girls don't like it when I wear jackets that are unzipped, especially my gray The Nightmare Before Christmas jacket, I guess they look like giant bird wings to themšŸ˜‚. They also don't approve of loose fitting pants, I become a predator once I put those on

Oh, except for self-retracting tape measures - those are terrifying. Can't say I disagree.
Especially if you've ever cut yourself on it while it's retracting! I didn't but was there when someone did. No stitches needed, but not pretty!

I sing to my chickens when I go into the run. I apologize for the noise when I go by the run to get some wood from the woodpiles. When I winterize or springerize (de-winterize?) the coop, I explain that they will really like the results, so it'll be worth the noise/confusion.

I know that they understand what the "chickie snack" song means!

I change up what I’m wearing, because I am a person who loves variation!!!
I wear skirts all the time, and they aren’t fazed.
They do hate EMPTY feed bags, but love full ones! lol

Apparently, they don’t like white, though. I almost never wear it. (What farmer with little kids would do that anyway?)
Yesterday, I wore a white shirt, and my rooster came at me, wing down, neck fluffed. Then he started totally clawing my boots off!
I was totally caught off guard, because he’s such a sweet boy the rest of the time!

So it turns out, that my flock are apparently all horrible fashion snobs.
Went out this afternoon, wearing my new pair of board shorts, that are white with a blue pattern, to let everyone out to range. They all went bananas, like I was a huge fox or something. Thought about it and realized I had the same thing happen, when I wore my bottle green T-shirt a few days before.
Anyone have their chooks freak out over what you are wearing? Is it a color thing? Or are they just so used to my normal home rags that they didn't recognize me wearing something new? I know that while they are fine with me, strangers showing up make them run and hide in a panic.
I haven't found that simply changes outfits has any effect on the chickens. The guineas get confused if I wear anything that changes my silhouette: like a backpack or a hat.

They all do get freaked out by certain colors and patterns. In particular mine get freaked out by anything bright orange.

Read up on how their vision works. They see a broader range of colors, and they can see into the ultra-violet range. They also can perceive very high frame-rates: human vision tops at at 30 to 60 frames per second, while chickens see 150-200 FPS. A lot of forms of artificial light, particularly flouescent bulbs and som LED's, appear to strobe or flicker to them.

So to them, the world probably looks like watching 4K HD video on acid.

Interesting!

I came in from hunting last week wearing winter camo and checked on the girls for lockup time…OMG!! They had a special kind of ā€˜roost rumble’ trying to get away from the ā€˜winter bumble’. I quickly counted and left before they hurt themselves! To them it must have looked like the door simply opened and a disembodied voice wished them a good night.
