Every year for the past five or more years our preschool raises ducklings. There's never been any problems until now- one of my co-workers I guess was anxious when a duck pipped for 2 days and didn't make any progress so she helped it along- the thin is is that now, day 3 is when all of the other eggs have started to pip, so this duckling is premature by 3 days. The yolk sac was still attached, to help it along we wrapped the yolk sack in warm wet paper towels. During the night the duckling had moved alot in the bator and I'm pretty sure it ruptured the yolk sac, also because it had been on one side for do long during the night I think that it may have developed some sores from moving alon on the one side. Basically I told my coworker that I'm taking over and bring the poor duckling home with me so I can give it attention at every hour so it has a better chance of survival- what should I do though? Are there creams and ointments I should put on the yolk sac and injuries, should I be trying to strengthen by food water nutrients or wait until all the yolk has absorbed. It has been "hatched" since yesterday. I would like a step by step guide, I don't think his chances are all that great to survive but he seems to be a fighter so I want to do my part to help. Please any advice would be appreciated

There was a thread on here that said leave the sack alone keep the duck warm and in a sterile environment it will take a couole days but the yolk should absorb and the duck will lay on its side for the process... I may be wrong I dont have experince

I'm not an expert but usually we start feeding our ducklings twenty four hours after they hatch. I've never dealt with something like this though. Hopefully someone else will have experience with this. Good luck! Sending prayers for the little guy.
