School fundraisers are evil....

why can't i just send in a donation? my kids don't need to get hyped up to win 'awesome' prizes that don't even rival dollar store items.

i don't have a problem helping, in fact, we should, but it's the junk that we pay way too high a price for.

oh, and of course, the sweatshirt form has NO phone number on it after i paid for it. just the form asking me to purchase. aaaagh. i hope they have mine somewhere. i have been waiting a month for it. (and my check, was of course cashed then.)

okay enough crabbing for positive me!

by the way, if anyone is interested in purchasing Boy Scout popcorn.......JUST KIDDING!!!!tongue2

My youngest 3 know why I keep their fundraisers from going out the door -
1.) I ordered (and so did alot of others) from 2 catalogs, complete with 2 order forms, that came as one package.
The school office staff threw away one catalog with an order form filled out, with mine and others orders, and they wondered where all the extra money came from, (why didn't they look through both catalogs before they even sent them to each class?)!!!
2.) I ordered from another catalog from a co-worker's child, and the company never sent my order, so my co-worker had to pay my $10 back to me.

So these fundraiser catalogs mean nothing to me any longer.

Answer 1.) The school staff told me they thought there was only one order form for 2 catalogs, so they didn't bother/think to look for an order form inside each catalog.

Bite your tongue! Girl Scout cookies are SACRED! I'm drooling a little right now thinking of samoas... YUM!!

My nieces school's fundraiser was nametags to sew in all the identical uniform sweaters and sweatshirts. It was opened up to whoever because that same company sold nametags for everything (baby bottles, sippy cups, lunch bags, etc). It was all done online and nobody had to collect money for anything. They just got a percentage of the sales.

It was a happy choice.

I don't get hit up too often, but so far I've bought a discount card from a football player and 2 boxes of trash bags from a grandson.

I don't mind too much since my own kids used to have to do it too.

I have gotten sucked into the fundraisers in the past, and they do serve an important function. But now I volunteer my time instead of selling highly processed, factory foods

I'm with you all. My first grader came home the second week of school with the wrapping paper and junk catalog. I bought some gift bags, Grandma bought some paper, the lady across the street made him promise he'd come see her with any fund raisers so we did. Then the lady next to her found out we didn't see her and she came and found us. LOL, he ended up selling $100 worth of stuff because of our nice neighbors! But a lot of kids in our district are in the same boat as some of WOW's students.
He just joined Cub Scouts and was expected to be at the mall to sell popcorn most of Saturday, the same day as the school fall fair, duh.
My beef is a little different. Anyone else expected to collect Boxtops for Education and Campbell's Soup labels? His school is and they have to bring them in on a sheet of paper so they can get credit for how many they bring in. There are charts posted showing how many each student has brought in and contests between classrooms with pizza and ice cream parties as prizes. I love that the school can get important equipment for classrooms, I really do, but my kid is feeling punished because his chart is lower than some of his classmates. We don't eat a lot of prepackaged foods. I don't like for him to eat Campbell's kids' soups; they have a lot of sodium as well as MSG in them. If I take him to the store with me he is begging for things that I don't want to buy. And then I am the bad guy when I say no. Which say often enough as it is according to him. And if I speak up and say anything then I'm the weirdo mom who cooks from scratch all the time (not true but I try!) Or I'm a snob who buys organic cereals instead of Cheerios. Okay rant done.

Thank you!!! NO ONE here (here meaning our town, not BYC!) gets it! They think I'm a lunatic on a soap box.....
