School Policy...*(&^&%!!!!!

I haven't read all the posts but wanted to add that it just terrible.
They tried to do such a thing to my 1st grader! Who is ADHD by the way.
I went to the next school board meeting and told all of them just what I thought of their "rules" and detention for a 1st grader.
I know they did not like it but that is too bad. I don't like their rules.
So they did bend the rules for detention. Instead of staying after school he was allowed to stay in on recess. But OMG pick your battles. Kids are kids. Don't make every thing a strike. And that is crazy that they get a strike when it is the parents fault.
Go to those board meetings until they get sick of you. Call the superintedent too. Make yourself heard or things will never change.

I totally dont agree with missing recess as punishment either. My cousins 5 yr old stepson missed recess almost every day. HELLO!!! HES FIVE! maybe if he RAN OFF SOME ENERGY HE COULD SIT STILL AND LISTEN!!

Sorry I have strong feelings. And in case everyone forgot, school is to teach academics, parents are to teach responsibility. Schools cannot teach what parents refuse to show by leading.

I SO admire what teachers do. But that doesnt mean they can change children whose parents just dont care.

And I think school fund raisers are awful. Just awful. I though they got $4000 per kid already? Someone needs to learn how to budget.

And stop doubling the money for special needs kids, why wouldnt they label ALL children with something when they get twice as much money for them? I agree they need to do something to help them, but that just encourages false and harmful negative labeling.

I hate to say this but i like it! It holds kids responsible for getting their actions to an extent~

But in the same breath, that is alot of pressure for a child so young.

In this day and age some parents don't care about their kids education, it stinks you have to punish the kid to get the parents to realize it's their faults.

Warm fuzzies reminded me of this....

I forgot to mention that it is the PTA that does the fund raisers then the money is used for things such as Teachers Tea, Teacher Appreciation Day, Bus Driver Day etc etc....but the one that irritates me (and I know I am just being catty/petty) is the awards day. Because.....guess who's kids get the majority of the awards?

Right...PTA parents kids and Teachers kids.

I just think thats a bit....um...I know theres a word for it...drat! Anyways, its just weird.

And, again....this goes back to my major vent that there needs to be some fairness and some recognition that while most schools operate with Middle Class Rules, the majority of the students are NOT Middle Class so expecting all families to 'do the right thing' whatever that may be is not beneficial to children....socially or educationally.

I was so going to NOT open my mouth today. Sorry
