I get labeled "the bad parent", the neglectful parent all the time because I cant go to the parent teacher interview because that are always at night at like 4PM.
I am busy at work getting residents ready for supper at that time why cant we schedule it during the day at like 830 in the morning before you start class..... o yeah thats right the union wont let you... ok can we do a telephone interview during your recess time...o thats right thats your union mandated "break" ...
so the title can go both ways... most teachers look at me like i have 3 heads when I tell them I cant afford to take the time off work. I cant afford to take a day off work to go to all 3 schools to do interviews...they schedule them for 4pm but you cont get to see teach till 430 cause they are always running behind... If I take the 6 hours off work to go to these meetings i just lost $120, but then because of my contract with my employer, if we are going to be more then 3 hours late for the shift, someone else will have to cover the shift so I loose 2 more hours so total those interviews just cost me $160 ...sorry i cant afford that, THAT is my grocery money DH's hours have been cut back due to the auto ind.
so just cause some parents cant fulfill every expectation that the teacher has does not make them a bad parent
depending on DH's contract that week he may have just worked a 12 or a 16 hour day and I work evenings, when I get in from work at 11 signing a test is not #1 on my list and DH's had to get the kids ready for bed, lunches made, dinner ect...he does not have time either... some teachers need to learn that we all cant have 9 -5 monday - friday jobs (I know those are not teachers hours it is an example of the leave it to beaver stereo type)
