Science experiment. Need data.

Which owl is deceased?

My gut says picture two is the alive bird because the eyes are open. But I also think there could be a trick and the first picture shows the alive bird, not that you are tricky, mother nature is. But my official vote is picture two, he is alive

Jared, do you hve any idea how/why this owl died? This made me sad. Looking forward to seeing the results of your experiment.

According to IDFG, it couldn’t see well in Daylight hours while flying. It’s possible it crashed into the tree and broke its neck while trying to land.

Two things, first, I’m looking for people to identify the picture of the dead bird. Second, it actually died with its eyes open.

I probably should’ve specified that.

You’ve just unblinded your research study 🙂

OK, I have sufficient data. I don’t know how to close the poll, so I’m just gonna come out and say it.

The deceased owl is in picture number one. The majority was correct.

However, this experiment went a little rough. There were some major details that I accidentally left out. For example, I failed to point out that the owl died with its eyes open, and its eyes were open in both pictures. You just couldn’t tell because of the camera angle in picture number one.

Regardless, the majority was correct. They could tell by looking at it that the owl was dead in that picture.

This warrants another experiment in the future, but so far the evidence supports my hypothesis.

Thank you all for the help with the science experiment. I really appreciate it.

Glad that you did this, it was very interesting.
