Scissor beak chick

I wish you the best of luck. I had to put down a scissor beak chick a few weeks ago. The problem is as they grow it will get worse. Some do okay but when mine was struggling to eat and getting frustrated I knew it was the most humane thing to do. My vet told me there was no coming back from this for her unless I wanted to tube feed her, not a life for a chicken.
Awww I am so sorry. I'm hoping with it not being to sever and keeping on top of it she will live a happy life.

It will get worse over the next weeks, and often beak trimming isn't enough. That's already advanced for her (?) age.
She needs a deep feeder, and a deeper waterer than some. She won't be able to pick things off the ground, or handle pellets or larger items. Plan on crumble or mash in a deep dish forever for her. Some pullets and hens are able to eat enough to do okay for a while; realize that egg laying is a huge metabolic stress on the hen, it's not just about maintenance.
Watch her weight, and rate of gain, and be ready to euthanize if she can't have a good life. Watching her starve is not humane!

Thank you for your insight. Im very aware of possible outcomes, but want to give her the best shot in life. As the saying goes, it wasn't her choice to be born or let live but it's my responsibility as her now owner to give her a chance.

I don’t know either. I’m sure they will be happy and healthy chickens though. Good luck with them all.
Thank you! My little one (5yr old daughter) was messing around with their food and water, mixing it together. I think she has them all hooked on wet crumble now lol. My vet has an aviary vet that comes every other week, going to take her (chick) and one or two there's with the toe defects in.
