Scissor Beak UPDATE!!

If you come down to culling and if you live somewhat near me, I will take him/her. Just let me know. I can sometimes arrange transport through animal rescue groups I work with. Read my post about instructions to trim the beak, I laid it out pretty detailed. Good Luck!

I also wanted to put my 4 1/2 cents in and say that we have a pullet Australorp that have a very crossed beak, we call her ahirlip, althouygh her name is Viola.
We trimmed her beak a few times but once we realized that she was fine without being trimmed, we just made sure she gets her feed in avery deep bowl, so she can stick her whole face in there thus getting feed in her mouth. I usually leave our hanging feeder down on the floor of the coop once a day so she can feed as much as she likes, and when she is done, we hang the feeder up on its hook, she can still eat out of it hanging, but I feel she is eating better with her whole face down in it.

I found this link on another post on how to euthanize small animals 2 pounds and under. I've read through the article and its very informative. I printed out the article and will keep in my growing chickipedia just in case I need it later. It isn't recommended for larger pets but you may be able to rig it up to a mask so that it works better, at least anesthetizing them before culling.

We trim our sebright's beak with clean neil clipper. You shouldn't have to until you see a problem with eating. You can shine a flashlight from underneath so you can see blood vessels. If there's bleeding, cornstarch helps it clot pretty well. We've been doing this for 3 years now! Good luck.

Thank you everyone.
I did trim the beak a little last night with nail clippers.
I seemed to get a small tiny drop of blood.
I felt so bad.
I will use the flashlight next time. I do not live closeto Kentucky. I live in California not far from San Fransisco.
He is still going good and his gullet is full.
Thanks again

I think the beak formation got to be to great. I started to force feed it but that is not really a quality of life so I had to cull in a humane way. Thank you all for you help

I'm sorry for you and know how much that can hurt, but you are a good steward of animals by the choice that you made. I have not had much luck with cross beaks even though I gave it my best shot. They got to the point that they looked like they were eating but they couldn't get enough food in their crop not to be constantly hunger. Hugs to you.

Yes, that is what happened. He tried and tried to eat until he even lost all his fear but still he hungered.

I was blessed to remember the greatness of life even a very small life.
