scissor beak

hope im posting in the right area, but i have a favucauna that has scissor beak and shes about 2 weeks old. well im trying a method to see if i can fix this. I super glued a little peg on her beak that is guiding the lower beak to close properly, she isnt in any pain or unable to eat. Shes a little annoyed but i noticed shes eating and drinking and her beak is closing the way it should. im really hoping this will correct the growth. im gonna try this for a month and i will update later on.

so i thought i would share this to help anyone that is going through this issue. if this works i will be pretty happy!

Will be following. If it works, that's great. But, my understanding with scissor beak is that it's a deformity of the skull, so correction at the beak will not work in a lot of cases. It depends on how severe the deformity is.

yes you are correct. but my hope is since shes developing that as she grows this will correct the issue. i really hope it works!!!

Definitely sounds like a two person job. Wrapping firmly in a towel can help immobilize birds when working on them.

i had some choice words throughout the process but she was so good. i put the piece between my index finger and upper beak then with thumb i applied pressure to sandwich it. and she can breath still which is important so like you said, using a rag or towel to immobilize her would have worked better but i chose the hard way. lol

Experience is the greatest teacher. About those 'choice words', I banged my arthritic old hands yesterday, and the Princess said Jesus and Santa heard what I said - I'm in trouble.
