The vinegar/baking soda puts the chicks to sleep and is very humane. There was no suffocating and took 3 seconds for the process to be over.
I'd much rather do this then take an axe to the head.
I used a gallon ice cream pail. I put 1/2 cup of vinegar in a measuring cup. I set the chick next to the cup and poured the baking soda in, covered the lid quickly which produced the gas. The chick went quickly and never got wet.
I refuse to let any animal suffer. I broke my neck a few years ago and I suffer enough myself. I don't wish suffering upon any living animal ever.
