Wouldn't you know it, this morning my brown leghorn alerted everyone that she laid an egg. Went to check the box and what she left looked like a partial scrambled egg. There was even some yellowish stuff outside the box on the ledge for the box. She is about 6 months old, has laid a soft shell egg once about a month ago. I put some egg shells in the feed this am. I'm thinkin her next egg will be normal...Sorry no pic. What say you?

just went out to give the girls their mealworms,,the leghorn was totally uniterested...her comb is laying to one side...she's not feeling good...saw a little bit of runny poop coming from her, almost like a drool and yellowish white. Wonder if she ate too much grass yesterday for their first day of free ranging....she was drinking......I guess tomorrow morning will tell me more

I had an Australorp pullet like this. She either wasn't eating enough oyster shell, or her system wasn't up to par for making eggs. Calcium Citrate with Vitamin D, given once per day, patched her up. I wouldn't have given it long term. Only once in a while if she fell back into a softshell egg streak.

Same thing with the floppy comb, runny bum, and sad demeanor. She even felt feverish. :(

Citrical plus d3 petites are always highly recommended in these forums because they already have the calcium abd the D3 and theyre smaller and easier to get the chicken to swallow, its what I have in my first aid kit as well. One pill each night for a couple of nights until you see more solid shells probably not more than a week

If you have the bottle handy, what's the dosage on the Ca? and vit D as well, I guess.

FWIW, I've seen 300 mg Ca (plus vitamin D) daily for a week recommended here. I use my human Ca + D3, which is 600 mg Ca, every other day. No basis for this, it's just what I came up with.

edit to add: Googled it: the petites have 200 mg/250 IU each (human serving is two caplets, so double those figures for human use)

Yeah I feel like the lower dose of the petites is nice for giving daily but I'm sure every other day would be just fine too!
