scratch grains

If you insist on doing layer feed, wait until everyone is laying. I start 20% non-layer pellets around 3 weeks (as soon as they are big enough to eat them, basically) and that's what they all always eat.
I went to the feed store today looking for non layer pellets and they don't seem to have them. They have flock raiser crumbles but no pellets. What brand do you use? I think I may need to look had a different store.

They don't have any at TSC as far as I know. The only national one I know of is Nutrena All Flock so you would have to find your local Nutrena locations and see if they carry it.
https://www.nutrenaworld.com/product/naturewise-all-flock-feed#guaranteed-analysis-anchor Since the closest one to me is about an hour away I buy Meat Bird Maker pellets from Southern States which is pretty close in most regards in terms of nutritional analysis... a bit higher in fat and protein but my birds do a lot of grazing so I think that offsets it. They only list it in crumble on their website, though; I'm not sure if that is an oversight or if my location is atypical in offering it in pellet form.

Do you have Rural King? I remember that is what we had instead of TSC where I lived in Indiana. They should have the Nutrena All Flock Pellets.

I thought it was strange that they had nothing at all in pellet form, except layer feed. Unless they figure if you're feeding anything else it's more likely to be offed before it gets old enough for anything beyond grower/ finisher. It looks like there's a few places near me that supposedly carry that brand so I'll have to check them out. I have a bin full of layer feed right now, and 1 of my roos is finding a new home tomorrow morning (thankfully!) so I'll only have to worry about the other 2. Thanks for the info. I appreciate it.
