So this little chickie had to be helped out of her shell. She is scrawny but seems to be very active. No major deformities other than maybe a weak wing. I know you really shouldn't help them out of the shell but we couldn't just let her die. We tried to clean her off a little b.c the egg was all stuck to her. We named her Mary Tyler Moore. What do you guys think? Have any of you every dealt with a weak chick? Did they make it?

*Sorry the pictures are not the best quality.

Hi! Just to say I hope your chick makes it - sadly one of our 3 day old chicks died this morning - my hubby helped this one out of it's shell and it was very tiny compared to the others - but we at least gave it a chance.
Good luck to you and your chick!

No - mine was very tiny - your chick looks to be bigger than mine and at least your chick is active - mine had to survive with 5 others and it was not very active at all - but we can say we tried can't we? I had one die in the shell a few months ago and that was so sad I vowed to help the next one.... my hubby is so upset but for us there is no right or wrong way - I only know that I would help anyone or anything in trouble.... once again - good luck and keep me posted:thumbsup

I had 1 JG chick like that. It looked almost identicle to yours. Just a lil darker. It is doing great! Its been almost a week now. You can still tell it apart from the others but it is doing great. Full of energy and just as rowdy as the rest. It does have more white in its color than the rest, Must be a splash. The eggs I hatched had Blue, black, and splash possibilities. Good luck with your Fuzzy Butts!

Good Luck and God Bless!

I am very glad you gave her a chance!! I helped a chicky out once, I was cleaning out the incubator at day 26 and heard chirping, I slowly cracked her open, and peeled the shell away with my eye brow pluckers and wraped the chicky in a moist towel. Needless to say, that chick was the smallest chick I have ever seen, however it was the fastest!! So fast she ran circles around the brooder, we named it bullet. She lived 6 months then we had a bobcat attack in the middle of the night and it got bullet. Plucked her right off the roost! A sad ending to such a fighter! If it weren't for that bobcat she'd still speeding riight along, faster than the others!
Good luck with your " fighter"! I bet you'll have a bullet to!

Here is a picture of Mary Tyler Moore now. She is doing great! We even put her in with the other chicks. She finally looks like a normal chick now!
