Screeching hen

My hen is making a screeching sound that sounds panicked, but there’s no predators/danger around when she does it. Whenever she sees me, she stops.

What breed is she?

I have a pair of white crested black polish and they scream for attention. Rather like spoiled kids!

My hens make a call like that when they're looking for the other hens.

When they're free-ranging they will get separated from one another. They call out in a panic until they find the others. Could she be looking for you or the others and once she realizes she's not alone she no longer needs to call?

Is she looking up while doing it? Do you have any roosters? Before I had roosters, if my hens spotted some kind of hawk or crow they would screech, and sometimes when I am running outside and come to a sudden stop they scream

Maybe, but she’s just started doing it and I was actually wondering if it could be her freaking out about her first egg?? She hasn’t payed any yet, but I have seen her and the rooster... together

I have a rooster and she’s not looking up, but fast walking around their cage (I have to have them in a caged area otherwise my dog will kill them)

Hmm, she's got to have a reason (trust me, all of my chickens end up having reasons ) Lol

My hen does this pterodactyl screech when I go to get her eggs. Many hens like to let the whole wide world know they are laying eggs as well.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!! As I suspected, their first egg and my first egg as a chicken owner!!! She stopped making noises for a while and I got concerned now that she was quiet again (ironic) and I checked on her and BAM there was an EGG
