screening limestone or sand

i had built a 12x12 pen for my 5 chickens.been doing research on using limestone or sand.way to many, use or not to use.grrr. i can get 1/8" screening limestone(buckwheat to dust) to use for the floor at 4 inch thick.or should sand be used instead. limestone is 12.50 ton sand is 22.50 ton

If you're using Limestone, you need to make sure it's not high magnesium Limestone .it must be low magnesium limestone. I read the research
I can tell you where to read it .high magnesium limestone is not good for chickens but low magnesium is okay. you can read about it in the 'Bibliography of Grit" it's at https://m.hathitrust.org . 89 pages of scientific studies. Full view, keyword searchable.
each one has an abstract attached to it so you don't have to read lots of long scientific literature.

Wouldn't be looking for any additional pullets would you? I've got about seven pullets and a Cockereland. Cockerel is a light Sussex ex brown leghorn cross. anyway they're nice and started .they were hatched the 1st and the 15th of May. If you are looking for extra Birds let me know .Karen

i ended up going with the screened limestone.it is 1%magnesium.sand plant said to get the limestone,it is better for chickens.
