Screws, Nails, Or Glue For Vinyl Flooring Of Coop?

My vote is for screwing through battens (either thin wood trim pieces, or the metal pieces used for Actual Vinyl Flooring Installation In Houses if you have a cheap, e.g. recycled, source).

It is no less secure than glue, and has the advantage of being quite easily removeable when you someday need to replace the vinyl flooring.

I squoodge a little bead of caulk under the batten before I place and screw it, so there is no open crevice under it for mites to hide in -- just strike off any overspill of caulk with a damp finger so there's nothing peckable.

Not that glue won't work, just I think this way is better.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat

Watch about the first 30sec. of this video. It will give you the basic Idea of a folded corner. I've put in thousands of shower pan liners and do it a little different/faster but that is due to experience I now have in doing it.

Terrific tips from all of you who responded, and I thank you!

My final question is WHERE did you find usable vinyl remnants for a good price -- or did you buy a new piece off a roll? Again, thanks. This site is totally amazing for the level of expertise and assistance received.

I saw 4 x 8 sheets at home depot for $40> (a bit pricey) I picked up some remnants free from a flooring store, the owner was going to toss- However, I also found a 9 x 6' sheet vinyl at a discount store (here at a Grossman's bargain outlet) for $17. Bought that - will have some leftover for the sides now, too! (A 4 x 8 coop to be built by yours truly!) I can use the extra vinyl remnants for poop boards, etc...

I used Patandchickens idea and it has worked wonderfully for months. No glue or adhesive needed. No wrinkes or cracks. All caulked around the edges. Perfect. I bought a piece of linoleum at home depot for $49. It is so easy to clean. I actually like it better than my kitchen linolem!

Fortunately my BIL is in the flooring business. I get remnants, outdated, or discontinued vinyl for free or almost free for personal use. Saves him from having to pay a dump fee. Last week I bought a 12'x100' piece for $25.00. I agree with the earlier post, check with flooring center's, especially if they have their own warehouse.

greyeyes, Lowes sells 6x9 foot rolls. I just bought one a couple of days ago. Around $25 if I am recalling correctly. All the remnants they had were $50 plus.
