Rita isn't broody. Not sure what's wrong unless she got a bit of heat stroke yesterday. She isn't acting like herself at all. She did finally drink and eat a tiny bit, but she acts slow and spacey and wants to be held. She was sitting on the nest probably to be undisturbed and rest, but isn't showing any real broody signs. I hope nothing is wrong internally.


On a brighter note, someone, either Reba or Sunny, laid an egg in the bantam pen. It's brownish, so I'm betting Reba, since Sunny hasn't laid an egg in probably a year and hers were always cream colored. Reba has been expelling weird stuff with egg white on occasion, but this looks to be her shade of brown. Nugget is on a nest now and her eggs are always much larger than this and pink-toned, not brown/tan, so this means one of my elderly hens is back in production!

Thanks for the well wishes all. I am coming to you from my new toy.....the new tablet PC. Oh I am liking it. The first thing I figured out how to set up....BYC.

Scott...you and Cyn could try what I did with DeDe when she thought she wanted to go broody in 95 degree weather. I brought her in the house, opened the oven door, stood her on it and told her to take a good look because that is where she was heading if she dared be stupid enough to go broody in this weather. She looked around and inside and I took her back outside...no more broody inclinations. Hahahahah. Yes I am a meanie and threaten my chickens when they do stupid stuff.

Kathy, George is looking awesome! Poor old Tyson. All those years of faithful companionship are all for naught, simply because he hasn't the energy in 90+ degree weather to chase a possum! Tsk! Tsk! Tsk! Come on Kathy, give the old boy a break! I bet if it were cooler, he'd be happy to chase critters with the total abandon of a pup. Don't feel bad. I can't even get Jasper to shoo the chickens off of the lawn, and he loves to go bouncing right through the middle of the flock on cooler days. It's just the heat. He'll do much better when things cool down.

Tried to get pictures of Emilio and his girls yesterday. Dang stupid batteries! Why doesn't anyone make rechargeable batteries that will hold a charge longer than an hour after being charged? I swear! Every single one of mine are ready for the circular file!

Soooo, pending acquisition of new batteries, pictures of said chooks shall have to wait!

I've been watching the news about the impending arrival of Irene. My prayers are going out to any and all in the path of such potential destruction. May the Great Spirit protect you all!
