And since I am in a picture mood.....I had to go get my mottleds from the fair today. They have been there since last weekend. they were happy to be home! I have 9 hens and 1 cockerel......plus 8 young birds (3 pullets, 5 cockerels).

The young cockerels are MEAN. They should be Mr Mottled's sons.....he was mean too, so this definitely reinforces that concept. Little bastards....

I am going to see if the person who got the splash mottled cockerel from me a few months back, will trade him back for his sister (in front here)

Remember him? I wish I had kept him....and she said she would trade him back for a pullet (I originally traded him to her for a pullet, so its a fair trade). These pix were him as a pretty young cockerel.

These are the two I got in trade for that splash mottled cockerel, back in May. The boy was only 6-8 weeks old at the time, and then girl was POL.

This blue hen kept chasing the younguns around....this is her first time in the "big" pen,she is relatively new and had been in a quarantine cage and then separate coop/pen prior to the fair.

I've regretted selling him for a while. At the time, I had Mr Mottled and no plans to replace him. He really slowed down over summer and I started thinking about retiring him and wishing I had kept him to make lots of pretty blue mottleds. Then Mr Mottled died.....and now I want him back for sure.

Its just a matter of getting over to SC to pick him back up. I am going to trade his sister for him....she was on my "sale list" and I dont have any use for her as I think she is too light of a blue. So, I am going to get the splash mottled boy back, and then cross him to my super duper gorgeous typey mottled girl.....can't wait to see the babies!!

Hey Kathy.....how 'bout some pictures of your Icelandics?? They have a WIDE range of colors don't they?

I am packin' to head to Roanoke, VA in the AM....hoping sometime soon my Jan hatched birds start laying!!! I am getting 2-3 eggs a day....thats it!! I think I am going to hang on to about a dozen decent layers (hopefully all Col Rocks) and no less going forward. Kath - BTW, those are Silver Columbian if you need any. I need to get by Beth's place and get that Good Shepard cockerel she has....thinking that will be a good road trip for one week when I am not "scheduled" to be off somewhere.

Enjoying the cooler weather here, but sure wish we'd get some rain!!!

Take care all

Scott,
You can have this rain! It is a muddy mess here. I am so enjoying the cooler temps though.
Hope that BR rooster works out for ya. We just butchered 8 of them.

They dressed out quite nicely.

I get to meet Beth at Crossroads next month! And Nella, and Knox, and everyone else that goes!

Oh yes! Icelandics come in many many colors. Tonight is the deadline for entering photos for the 2012 BYC Calendar thread. Mike wants me to enter this one. However, in my poll it is in 4th place. Decisions, decisions! We can enter 2. Have you all submitted yours?
