Cynthia, if I remember correctly from my first abdominal surgery MANY years ago...10 days - 2 weeks before exterior stitches were removed. The skin will need to heal and grow over. Now with the heat lamp, if it is hitting that area, it will promote healing faster but I would still wait 10 days minimum from last opening her up and clip one of two with scissors or clippers and check the skin closure before removing any others. If need be, replace the snipped ones and tie off onto the older ones and gives it a few days then clip another one and etc.

muahahahahahaha I have ruined Rufus he has been officially cuddlized. My job there is done. Now where is that evil smiley?

Thanks for the timetable! I think the stitches are the least of her worries yet, though. She still needs to show she is really recovering. She is sitting near her food bowl. She seems so tired, poor dear.

Check out these pictures from outside today. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=588644

That Nora, Snow and Alice are stunners to me. So is Miranda....I wanted to hug and squeeze Miranda, I still miss my original girl Lilly the LB.

Smoky is taking a turn for the worse. She has been laying under the heat lamp for hours, shivering like a feverish person with chills. I think her body is shutting down.

She is such a fighter.

She hasn't pooped out anything, really. I just don't think her crop is going to work on its own and there is nothing we can do to make it work. Darn it, she is a strange girl, but she is Suede's strange girl and he's going to miss her, as is her sister, Dusty, if she doesn't make it. What a beautiful hen she is, too. I'm so bone weary, I'm just going to bed. She is under a warm lamp and all I can do is hope against hope that she will turn a corner. Good night, all.

Dang it. I got a bad feeling. Just awoke from a dead sleep to come check on Smoky. *sigh* Poor girl, what a fighter and tough lady she is. If she passes I pray it is quickly and peacefully. Suede and Dusty will miss her so will Meg. Smoky, if you are listening big blue girl. ... Thank you for my wonderful Thor, your clone Athena and my beautiful Zena, look for Thor across the bridge, he will be waiting if it is time for you to go.

She is still alive, but no better this morning. I didn't expect her to even be here when I woke up. She is dying, I'm positive. It's just a case of you do everything you can do, but there's nothing anyone can do to make a crop work and pull food through into the stomach. Hers just quit, which I'm now sure is why it was impacted in the first place, not that the impaction stopped the crop, but the crop quit and thereby became impacted with normal stuff she eats every day.
