Tom's dad is home, with oxygen, and of course, he called the other person in the family dying of emphysema to tell him, Tom's younger brother.

Did crop surgery on one of my porcelain D'Anver roosters, Angus, yesterday. Tried to make as small of a slit as we could and didn't get out as much as we're sure was in there, but could be that the hole was plugged, which caused the impaction. It's not now. Figured he'd be dead today. Nope, he's pacing and crowing and wondering why I don't leave his water bowl and his yogurt/oil/mashed egg yolk mixture in the cage with him.

His comb has been going dark for a couple of weeks before this happened. A week ago, we let him and Sunny and Shadow into a pen that has actual grass and he must have eaten it wrong or something and it became impacted, but also, could be some of that grass plus grains plugged up that hole at the back. Didn't realize it until days later because D'Anver males have these bull chests anyway. His looked too big in his crop and I noticed he'd lost weight when I picked him up. Never had this happen to a rooster. He's not out of the woods yet, has only pooped a little once, but is better than we expected. Dang, I need some real sutures and a good needle!

Haven't even seen Dottie today. Emily is still limping, not eating much, and living in Zane's cage until her leg heals up some. Her bumblefoot is on the mend and that wasn't the real issue in the first place.

Up to 116 holly leaves on Ellie's quilt, almost finished and ready to start the border.

I have just been having such bad luck here. Maybe it's the breed, who knows.

This morning I go out and in one pen 2 out of 9 ten week Polish are dead. On examination, the only thing was if I pressed on their belly, it shot blood out. On both. No blood anywhere including outside their vent. But there were some spots of red where they roost.

In a pen, 8 x 8, hardware cloth, no sign of entry, no sign of injury, they were fine at lock up last night and I was back there quite a bit yesterday doing stuff.

Can you guys take a guess, I'm at my wit's end. What would cause internal bleeding in the middle of the night of 2 youngsters?

Sem, I am so sorry to hear about your loss

I have no idea what could have caused that.

Cyn, you are braver than I am. I hope the little guy heals up fine.

I hope the others will be fine too.
That's a lot of sewing, your back mucst be killing you, not to mention your fingers. I am nearly done with one of the tumbling blocks quilts.

Kathy, you are most welcome. I was hoping you would like that. Warning...it won't weigh the giagantic eggs

Thursday night will be three weeks since I put eggs from Wynette under my two broody BR's. This morning when I opened the door to the coop there was a half hatched egg on the floor alongside one of the BR eggs. The poor little olive egger didn't make it of course. It was mostly white with a couple of black spots. I did stick the other egg back in the nest since it wasn't cracked. I checked under the other BR and one of the olive eggs had pipped. I have no idea how the eggs ended up on the floor unless the hen did it. The only two left in the coop are the two broodies. I may try to move one of the hens to a cage just in case the one is going to be a chick killer.

Thanks. So I'm treating for nec. Enteritis and cocci.

This morning there's another one dead. :hit Bloody spots on the perch.
And it stinks. Like smells. bad. What the heck? I just don't know what to think at this point, other than putting them on antibiotics and Corrid.

Geez, smells bad? Is there any blood coming from their nasal passages or mouths, Karen? If that was the case, I'd say ILT, definitely a BAD thing as that would be reportable to most states. I know there are mutated forms of cocci that require a double dosage of Corid. I'd try that, personally.

There is nothing wrong respiratory. The foul odor is from the blood and stool.

It does sound like some Necroptc. It;s a waiting game to find out it is.

I have a broody who refuses to give up. I put her in the 4x4 feed storage room (all alone), to break her.
She is resourceful in looking for a nest, don't ya think?

She will not budge from there, and she screams louder than any broody I have ever had. When she screams, the entire barnyard hears her and responds to her plea for help!
