Good luck with the hatch Kathy! I know you won't forget to post pics!

Candled the eggs under my Nugget today. The only one that has good, clear veining and I'm sure of belongs to Caroline.

One other that seems like it's a possibility belonging to Panda and Ellie's looks like the aircell is detached for some bizarre reason but probably developing, so I left it in there. Two others were very blotchy so I can't tell and, though they are probably not fertile, I left them in there, too-those were Snow's and one of Meg's two.

Absolute clears were Nugget's, one of Meg's, Dusty's and Becca's so they were tossed.

Anyway, Nugget went from 9 eggs down to 5 on Day 6.

Nobody here but us chickens.

Removed both Snow's and Meg's other egg from Nugget's clutch. Just three left, only 100% positive about one of them developing normally, Caroline's. Ellie's developed but seems weird somehow. Not really sure about Panda's, but her light olive egg with tan speckles is harder to figure, plus it seems a tad porous to boot.

I like your fire pit, Kathy. I want one.

By the way, I have quilted 110 holly leaves on Ellie's bed quilt since we've had cooler weather lately. I'm on the last row of blocks now, so it may take another 10 leaves or so, then I can start the border. Ellie made me do this, take a picture of myself quilting her fall/winter quilt. She is very persuasive, LOL. I hate pictures of myself. I look old and fat in my slouchy clothes sitting all hunched over all the time.

Kathy, looks like your grandsons will be having a great time.

Cyn, good luck with your hatch. I am not sure what is going to happen with Shug's eggs. She had a bad one that broke all over the others

I am still a novice at candleing

I moved the broody NH to the top of my Nella brooder. Shug is in the bottom. They went broody the same day. I can't remember exactally what day but it was before I gave eggs to the broody BR's. That will be three weeks this coming Thursday. I was going to move the two broody BR's to the small area of my big coop but Bryan thinks I should wait till the chicks hatch. Roy, the NH roo, is very happy to have an extra 5 girls with him. He has only had three girls and none of them look worn/bald. My BA roo has 7 girls and most of them look rough and bald. The same with my Delaware that I just re homed. I guess Roy is just extra gentle. My remaining Del girls and the three EE's seem happy with Roy. The Del girls were busy grooming him today.

The quilt is lovely

Delawares seem to be extra hard on the hens, even when they have lots of them. Isaac hates the BRs except for the Stukel Rock ladies. He makes exceptions for the BIG, super pretty ones, but stomps his foot at Fern, Becca and Barbara and basically ignores big old Amanda. Maybe he thinks she can beat him up; she is pretty tough, LOL. June and Maretta and the Blue Rocks are feather-worn, though, as is Nora. Snow avoids him with great skill.

I was noticing that Gideon has a RIR-red feather on one shoulder now. He's really broad, much broader than Ranger was. He stood on Tom's arm and he's quite a big boy at 10 weeks old, I think. He isn't too much smaller than Dru, Dottie's big 13 week old daughter, who is like an Amazon in that coop.

Someone was crowing again this morning before I got out of bed that was definitely NOT Ike, Suede, the D'Anvers or even Molly with her ridiculous mooing. It was a young crow. Seemed too polished for a 10 week old, but who the heck else could it have been except Gideon? I have no other males here but the 9 week old D'Anver cockerel and he's really small. This was a standard breed cockerel, not a bantam. Whoever it is, I need to catch him at it!
