Serrin, I feel your pain. My bumblefoot girl is a WILD white leghorn hen. She is about a year and a half old and I don't think I have touched that hen in over a year LOL. She is a lean mean egg laying machine and will come RUNNING for treats but don't try to touch her! She will scream like she is being murdered. Then I have roosters running up to me screaming and predator calls from the wimpy roosters who are afraid to get close and the other hens start running and screaming and squawking and flapping and then the dogs freak out and start barking and running and the ducks start quacking and flapping and then next thing I know I am in the middle of a 3 ring circus. All because I TOUCHED A CHICKEN.

i am going to swing by walmart and tsc today, pick up first aid cream, a nice fresh razor blade, a roll of vetwrap and some gauze. My dad very conveniently decided to be over my sister's house before I get home from work, so I will have to make a burrito wrap out of a towel and just do it myself.

If I actually go through with it tonight, I will let you know how it goes. I have two empty garage brooders currently, so I will put down a fresh layer of shavings and keep her locked up for a few days. I may actually catch another hen and stick her in there so she has a friend.

My girls foot looks horrible. I have injectable LA200 at home and may run her through a few days of that during treatment. It treats Staph infections, best I can tell...........

Amy, you don't want to just lance it; you want to cut that thing out. It will be like a plug and maybe some oozy puss under it. If you are lucky, it will all come out in one piece like this

I would have the following things on hand:

exacto knife
tweezers
some sort of antiseptic to clean the wound with
triple antibiotic ointment
gauze
vet wrap or bandaging material
injectable antibiotics (Penicillin or the stuff Nella is talking about)
a 20 gauge needle

Cut at a 45 degree angle all the way around the scab and use the tweezers to try to pull the plug out...scrap out any infection in the wound, clean it well, pack it with ointment, apply gauze and bandage then give the injection in the breast muscle.

That is what I would do if it were me. Where is Cynthia when we need her? Poor lady is under the weather.

You guys don't need me (sniff, cough, oh my aching head!). You're doing just fine! Great pictures, Ladyhawk. Oh, I am binding your tablecloth now, in between sinus headaches. You should have it within a week or two.

That person was going to come get the blue Orp boy yesterday and never showed. I was beginning to think maybe something happened to one of her kids because she really did seem to want him. Well, Saturday, she and her friend were in a car accident. She wasn't badly hurt and of course, in all that, she forgot about the blue Orp, understandably. That's two folks who wanted him but couldn't seem to get here to get him or the barred EE cockerel. They are 12 and 11 weeks old now and if you know anyone who may like to have either or both, let them know. The blue boy has his mother's eyes, not Suede's light ones, and he's getting so handsome and round!

Where would you get all this?

And speaking of molting, would that be the cause of so few eggs? Lord have mercy I'm getting one Del egg. I got 6 total. I've never had it this bad. when does it end?

I would hit the feed store or TSC for most of it and the nearest wal-mart or walgreens for the rest.

Kathy - that real yellow footed picture...is a kestrel...I just searched for pics and chose good ones that were as I described and or a little different....rats, guinea pigs, parrots etc etc all suffer bublefoot problems..or can.

Yes, Tim, molting will cause fewer eggs for sure. My little Easter Egger girls are all 3 molting (yes, even the mama EE with babies). None of them are laying. They are using up all their energy and protein to build new feathers, not making eggs.

On the other hand, I am now getting blue eggs, from some new layers (Ameraucanas). I have so many girls just at point of lay, and I love looking each day to see who is on the nest. Now getting some eggs from those perdy RIRs and Buckeyes, too. I sure do like that deep dark blackish red color on those birds.
