Quote: Wait....what??? OK, explain this to me like I'm five years old, Jeff. Are you saying that a cross between Maggie and company to my Del boy would produce the aforementioned color/pattern? Or do you mean a cross of BWA over Del would produce said results? I WANNA KNOW!!!!

See Tom? It's like I said: I have a lot to learn about this genetics stuff!

Not sure how I'm gonna learn it all....maybe through osmosis?

In the meantime, I'll be happy to just experiment my way through it all. One never knows. I might come up with something far more interesting than even a "Delawegger" would be.

Milio over maggie and girls what ever color they are will result in all Del patterned offspring yes maybe not as clearly a Del pattern splotchy here and there but thye will look like Delaweggers and are dellaweggers to the fullest extent now their offspring will more than likely produce multiple combos from muckltey duns to who knows because of what is lurking in behind the EE genetics, but first round the Del(silver) is a dominant color.

OK let me get this straight - Jeff you are saying no matter DEL/EE or EE/DEL it will produce a Delawegger with the del color on first round. ?
But either way will usually lay the colored eggs.
I just learned the OE egg is actually blue with a brown coat that makes it Olive green . Its all amazing. I'm on a learning curve. Remembering it all is the problem LOL

See Serrin you ain't the only one that gets confused LOL

A Delaware male=(same as a barred male which is what they are just a lot of the barring is diluted but still there) so therefore all his progeny is barred in this case will look like him Del patterned. F1s- from there on its a crap shoot

The Blue wheaten(genetically gold) male over a Delaware hen will produce sex-link offspring the males will be barred (Del patterned after the dam side) the females would be wheaten based therefore(gold) after the sire side. Its deep, but not too, once you figure it out. But yes you should get OEs out of either mating. blue x brown =Olive eggers but still will get some that lay bluer then green sometimes and you will get the occasional brown egger but that would come more likely from using a EE's instead Americanas, the EE are multiple breeds combined already usually.

Allow me to interject.

I had two EE crosses. One with a Del and one with a Dominique.

The Del patterned hen layed brown, the Dominque barred, layed white. Both were clearly crosses.

OK Jeff I'm slow but I think I've got it now.
Thanks for the clear explanation it helps us dummies LOL
I have to use a del cock as soon thats all I will have is 11 Dels and 2
EEs . The rest of the dunghills will be going to table fare when the Dels start laying.
Well ! If i don't get out voted by DW . One to one vote count but she seems to
hold the veto power . LOL

So no colored eggs at all ? Now I'm confused again LOL Well I have plenty of time the chicks are just 3 weeks old.
And you can interject anytime .Vintage opinions are always needed.
Were is Kathy we need some antique opinions too .
We need a update on how the Kimnim Del line is coming along.

I'm getting ready to set more eggs.

Where is Kathy, I need some BR eggs. MY roo is not doing his deed and the eggs are not fertile. I don't know what to do.

Soooo, your mean rooster is sterile, huh? Or, too lazy to do his job?
I had a pen of Orps with 2 or 3 roosters and never could get a fertile egg. Finally, I reduced to just one boy in there. Yep. That did it! I had too many boys and they were "knocking each other off," every time!

Hmm, that can't be your problem though. So, what ya gonna do? Want me to send you another cockerel?

I am hatching, right now. My first hatch of Delawares. F4s ! ! !

And I am just dieing to see them! Do you think these will be the penultimate round? Or do you think you'll have to go all the way to F5's or beyond to get them just right? If you ask me, the F3's were head and shoulders above anything else I've seen so far.

Jeff, I may be thick as a post, but keep pounding away on my head. Either I'm gonna be set enough to carry 4 strand, or I'll finally get it figured out!
