Soooo, your mean rooster is sterile, huh? Or, too lazy to do his job?
I had a pen of Orps with 2 or 3 roosters and never could get a fertile egg. Finally, I reduced to just one boy in there. Yep. That did it! I had too many boys and they were "knocking each other off," every time!

Hmm, that can't be your problem though. So, what ya gonna do? Want me to send you another cockerel?

I am hatching, right now. My first hatch of Delawares. F4s ! ! !

I am not sure what the problem is. When I left for AL in November I think things were fine. But when I came back the Marans were going into the BR coop to lay, cuz squirrels were getting into there coop and stealing the eggs. I don't know if the BM rooster and the BR rooster got into it or not.

I took care of the squirrel problem and the BM's are back to laying in their own coop, but the BR eggs have been infertile.

There of course was the long winter period of no eggs. Nearly three months.

I've wormed and dusted and all that. Vitamins too. Do you think Rooster Booster would help. He seems fine and flaps his wings when I go into the coop, but had not attacked me, since I gave him what for the last time. What can I do to get his mojo back? The last hatch was broody and I have only one hen from that.

What would it cost to get another cockerel?

And I am just dieing to see them! Do you think these will be the penultimate round? Or do you think you'll have to go all the way to F5's or beyond to get them just right? If you ask me, the F3's were head and shoulders above anything else I've seen so far.

Jeff, I may be thick as a post, but keep pounding away on my head. Either I'm gonna be set enough to carry 4 strand, or I'll finally get it figured out!

OK LOL Hey when you get ready to start up get you a good Delaware rooster from Mrs. Kathy and some of those BW Ams from Luanne and throw them in a pen then hatch those eggs and VIOLA you will be on your first go around with F1 Delaweggers. Then the experiment will begin from there on as I don't know what the out come will be(F1xF1) but I figure that like will beget like. That delaware pattern is strong I still get it here even though I haven't set a Del or a Delx egg in a couple of years. The Del pattern is the same as barring and once in the mix its pretty much there for a while.

Does that BR rooster have too many girls to take care of?

He is with 7 BR hens and 2 SLW's. The SLW's ( the Baldwin Sisters) don't seem bothered and pretty much stay to themselves. Do you think it might help if I moved him to a separate coop for awhile. I am working on one that will hold 3 birds at most.

I was planning to put in the new young BR hen that I have but should I reconsider?

I've added a ramp, pop hole and 8 x 4' run to it. I've got to do the roof and door on the back. I built it as a grow out coop for newbies.

Has anyone heard from Scott since this last outbreak of bad weather in Cartersville Ga. He lives close there. He started this thread. Yard full of Rocks.???

I have not heard from him in a while. He must be out of town. I hope everyone who is not heard from is okay. Talked to DIL in AL last night and they were okay. I will call later and see how they are since the news said the weather was near Birmingham and they are south of there.

Weather here stink big time. Cold and raining. Doesn't it know I have things to do?
