Needed to make a quick run into town this a.m. A simple drive into town? I think not. We were rushing because I was expecting a package today from a very generous fellow quilter and didn't want my mail guy to have to open the gate and get in and out of his vehicle. So, we were in a rush to get to town and back in an hour. On the way, we encounter a poor spaniel running all over the highway, I think a Brittany? Anyway, she was obviously not street smart, but luckily only one car came from the other direction. She was in front of the car and would be road pizza if we hadn't stopped for her when we did. We saw she had a collar and it appeared to be an ID plate on it, so we stopped, grabbed the cheapie leash we keep in the car just for this type situation. She came to me when I called and let me pet her. Just as we were putting her in the car to go to the tire shop to call the man's phone number, a truck pulled up in front of us and it was luckily her owner! Whew! He said his SIL called to tell him she saw the poor dog running around on the road so he was frantic to find her--apparently she is from good hunting stock. Why the sorry SIL didn't try to corral her, I have no idea. Anyway, good deed done.

Pharmacy only has 10 of my thyroid pills, it's on backorder (why? I get this every month, as I'm sure many do here), so then we go there, to the courthouse to pay my car tag and my property tax on my extra two lots, the P.O. to mail out bill payments, then to the grocery store to run the aisles to scoop up their current sale items, then skip the little dept store we planned to go to because we were running too close to mail time. On the way back, we get behind someone in a dark Ford Focus, NC plates, weaving all over the road. This person had to be drunk; I mean, who can't keep a Ford Focus between the lines? She was on the left side of the road then back into the grass on the right--no idea is it was male or female due to the backrest. After several miles, the driver turns off, then we miraculously pass a Sheriff's cruiser, wave him down and sic him on the drunk driver, then are home in a few minutes. We let out the broody for her daily run, then within a very short time, up pulls Mike the mailman with my very heavy, HUGE package containing all manner of goodies for my quilt I'm working on.

Now, I have to keep from getting a headache from all the rushing around and the drama.

Oh, and I recandled Emily's eggs since it's Day 12. Removed one more, but the remaining three have bouncing babies in there. The two I had to remove must be ones that she let get too cold before she got the hang of what she's doing.

Cyn, I am tired just reading that!!!!

Nella, Yup, Bryson City is just a hop, skip and a jump away. Why?

Kathy- I would think heat tape would work, but I worry about the quality of the plastic- and the chickens picking at things.

CETAWIN_ ARE YOU COUNTING?????????

Just wondering. I am kind of sort of on the hunt for another cat. Because 4 dogs, 1 cat, 2 bunnies, 1 horse, 4 ducks and about 100 chickens isnt enough, right?

(to myself)

I have an unhealthy love for black cats and especially underdogs...I worked at a shelter for almost 7 years in California, so am a bit picky about finding the right cat. Was looking around on the web last night and came across a black cat who has been at a shelter in Bryson City, NC for 4 years.....Its a couple hour drive for me, so was just curious where you were at in relation to them! I emailed them and haven't heard anything back so it may be a moot point anyways.

4 years???? Poor Pussycat! I would want to rescue that one, too. Hopefully they will answer you back. I would offer you Julian the Mighty, but we love him too much.

I know, 4 years is a long time........I get the feeling from trying to read between the lines on her adoption ad, that she is a very reserved, scared of most things and not overly friendly cat. Coupled with being an adult black cat........very hard to adopt. I don't know if I would be the right home anyways. i have 4 dogs and it gets LOUD at my place.....sounds like a dog kennel inside my house if someone comes to the door or when I get home.....My cat is used to it and is a total obnoxious butthead anyways....as much as my house being "low traffic" as far as family and visitors go, with no kids and no plans to have any.....a cat could do well here if all they wanted to do was lay around and enjoy the view. One of the cats that stayed living with my parents when I moved out years ago was a scared of everything black cat who would pretty much hide all day and just appear at night for some head butting and petting. she was almost retarded she was so strange....but also the sweetest and most low maintenance cat ever. She only walked along the wall in the hallway...really slowly....she would turn slowly and look at you with her HUGE eyes.....hilariously odd cat.

Anywho, we'll see if they respond and if they do, if they are even interested in me adopting her. Sometimes these very small no-kill shelters are not as interested in finding a good home for a cat as finding the diamond in the rough perfect home that only comes once every 5 years. It makes you wonder, 4 years is an awfully long time.

I rescued a shy black cat back in. . . . .hmmmm. . . . 1996? She did not make a good barn cat - very shy, scooted from place to place. I gave her to a sweet woman who had a very small apartment and who could keep track of her. I hate to confess it on here, but I love cats better than

Counting? Counting what? Oh heavens no I am too busy to be counting….I have alarms set on my Droid that start going off on Friday at 6 pm and continue every 4 hours until Monday at 6pm. At that point, If my Joleta is not here Tony’s life is in serious jeopardy.

I have no idea where the other horse on the trailer is going and he stops every 3 hours to water and check on them so that 13.5 hour trip is going to be a bit longer. LOL

I am waiting on Boni to send me the list of the stuff in Joleta’s tote so I can make my “Joleta Shopping List” and meanwhile stall renovations continue. Ya know it ain’t easy tearing down stuff 12+ feet up when you are only 5’2” tall. I was straddling that beam up in the top of the barn and scooting across it. All I can say is thank god I am part monkey or I have could have killed my sick self falling from up there. Thank goodness DH was not here this weekend to witness it or he would have had a hissy fit and a half.

As it does not appear that I will have my new chompers when you and DH come through on the 11th, do either of you have an aversion to Salmon? Or I could do a surf and turf - steak and salmon? I just cannot chew the steak at present but I will cook them for everyone else.
