Here is your girl trying to help another chick that is zipping.

the membrane was all dried and the chick seemed exhausted....so I helped it out of the shell.

Then I stuffed it underneath her and put her box back in her brooder. The yellow chick was looking GREAT....very active, looking for food a bit and its yolk sac butt thing was waaaay smaller. Cute chick

Ha- you were reading INTO my message, I never finished it. I could have put that I love cats more than my DH,(true on certain days) or more than saurkraut (always true) or more than housework. (very definitely true) The word chicken was never typed. hahahaha!

Joleta is coming, Joleta is coming!!!!!

And I like your black cat, Nella. I will dig up pictures of Julian the Mighty.

Beth you were thinking Chickens I heard it. I got the list from Boni and she was not sure what of it you wanted sent to you...I told her to send it all with Jo that I was having you two here on the 11th and if you wanted any of it you could take it home with.

The farrier is going home to Ireland to visit family and he just called and set Jo's first appointment for Dec, 13th and he said in his Irish accent "that is a little longer than I would like but I will be Ireland so you must use conditioner, check her feet daily, clean them daily and take care of them till I get back and DON'T let anything go wrong or else" I was like "yes sir I shall use my nail file and pedicure her daily" he said "Good girl!".

hahahahahaha

Heavens, I will bring some pink polish with me on the 11th. Diva, diva, diva!

Oh, and we both prefer salmon over steak any day! Seriously. What can I bring? DH's birthday is the 12th- should I bring dessert and candles? Might not be home made due to time constraints.

Kathy - I really like those crosses you had - what thread did you post them on? You could see the RIR body on some of them, but a couple looked more rounded out.

I opened this thread hoping to find out what "SDWD" means... but I am not wanting to search through 240+ posts to find out!

Anyone nice enough to tell me?

EDITED TO ADD: Oh dear, I have made a dreadful mistake... I didn't realise just HOW old this thread was.... it kept coming up in nearly EVERY search I make on almost any subject... I am sorry everyone...

Kathy, I have 2 broodies other than this one with eggs. Their eggs are much newer. The first broody that has the single black chick had a bunch of "staggered" eggs under her. So I candled and gave all the viable looking eggs to the buff columbian looking bantam cochin broody...plus she had eggs of her own. She has hatched 2 now......still has a good 4 or 5 eggs under her. I will pull them tomorrow and add them to another broody. I considered taking the new chicks and passing them on to the white leghorn x broody with the black chick but she isn't the best broody ever, so I worry that she wont take it (totally different color) and/or try to kill it. Plus now there is the newest chick which will need a couple days to "thaw out" if it makes it.

The two broodies remaining that have eggs were given them on the same day....SO, I could try combining them all under my big RIR/Cochin hen. However I think there are something like 16 or 17 eggs total between the two of them, LOL. So yeah, that won't work.

I refuse to fire up an incubator! My little lavender bantam cochin hen was very aggressive towards the broody leghornx when I had her and the baby out. I think she was trying to steal the baby. I am considering stuffing her in a brooder with a group of eggs to see if I can make her broody. LOL.

Here was a pic I took the other day.

She has potential! I have the brand new brooders in my carport! I wonder if that would work......
